how to tell if your bra is too small...

Background on why I'm writing an article on how to tell if your bra is too small.

I order a lot of bras. A LOT!! I like to order them, review them, and wear them. Up until now, my track record for ordering the right bra size has been 'pert near perfect.

I guess it was only a matter of time before I struck out and experienced the disappointment that comes with ordering a bra, waiting days for it to arrive, and then the frustration that follows when it obviously doesn't fit!

So last week, my 1st of 3 wireless minimizer bras arrived in the mail. I'm getting ready to do write a new page and bought several that looked promising. Clearly this bra is a stinker (thus far), but my loss is your gain.

Here's how to tell if your bra is too small.

Bra is too small

First: Just Because a bra is 'YOUR SIZE' doesn't mean it will fit!

I ordered a black, wireless minimizer bra in a size 34F.

A 34F has been my standard bra size for over a year. It should fit right? Wrong. Clearly in this brand (Dominique) and style (6800), a 34F is too small for me.

How do I know?

If you try on a bra and your breasts squeeze out of the top, IT'S TOO SMALL!

You're probably thinking, "Well Duh!" But I tell you, I'm amazed at the amount of women who are wearing bras that are too small.

Here's a test. Put on a bra, then put a shirt on. If you have a 'Quad Boob' (it's a real term, you can read more about here) then your bra is too small.

Basically a 'Quad Boob' is when your bra is so small that it cuts your breasts in two, magically turning 2 boobs into 4. It's not a good thing and it's how to tell if your bra is too small!

Second: A bra that is too small will make your body cry!

When I put this bra on, it hurt and I hated it immediately.

It was clearly too tight. The band was too small. You can tell from the picture that it was cutting into me.

Another thing that some women might overlook is the the importance of the band when it comes to support.

The band is the foundation of the bra. If the band is too small and can't support the weight of your breasts then it's going to put all the weight of your breasts on your straps and trust me, that's going to hurt your shoulders.

It's kind of hard to see in the picture, but since the cupsize on this bra is too small, my breasts are pushing down and folding the band in half. Not good.

I don't have a picture of it, but it's also important to mention, if a bra band is too tight will cause super ugly bra fat on your back. (Hence, the reason I don't have a picture of it ;) Nobody likes bra fat. Get a band that fits and doesn't cut.

Last Thoughts on How to Tell if your Bra is Too Small

Who's fault was it that this bra didn't fit?

Was it mine? I ordered 'my size'!

Was it's fault? (The site where I ordered the bra?) Probably not, they're just selling it, they didn't make it.

Was it the brand's fault (Dominique)? Maybe. Apparently this brand runs a lot smaller than other brands, but I didn't know that before I ordered it. Now I do.

Another thing I need to keep in mind is that this is a minimizer bra. It's suppose to be snug so it can do it's job of 'minimizing' the bust. The particular style of a bra will affect how it fits. But there is a difference between snug and so-tight-my-boobies-cried.

Also, because this is a wireless bra, the support is going to be slightly different from an underwire. All things to keep in mind when trying on bras.

What's the game plan now? Well, I'm going to chock this up as a learning experience and try again. I'm sending this bra back and trying it in a different size, probably a 36G.

As of right now, I HATE (x 1000) this bra and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. BUT. It's not really fair for me to totally badmouth a bra without giving it a fair shot and I can't, in good conscience, review a bra that is the wrong size.

So, I'm going to try my darnest to figure out what my bra size is for this particular bra, I just hope I don't have to send it back a 2nd time because....

Hopefully you were able to learn how to tell if your bra is too small.

Update 9/11/2015: I just got back from the post office where I dropped off this bra to exchange it for a bigger size. I wrote a page on how to return a bra in case you were wondering what the process was. (Hint: it's easier than making mac & cheese ;)

And check back in a couple weeks for my reviews on the wireless minimizers. (I hope the other 2 bras are better are better than this one.... :/)
